Silvija Mitevska
Silvija Mitevska began paragliding at the age of 15 in her hometown of Skopje, Macedonia. She would eventually become one of the top female practitioners in the Balkan region.
Paragliding opened up Silvija’s world and gave her a thrill for life, as well as the drive to be a human rights advocate. Silvija is president and co-founder of Together Advancing Common Trust (TAKT), an NGO based in Macedonia that aims to bridge cultural divides and promote social and gender inequalities through sports and cultural activities.
In 2017, Silvija helped organize the first-ever Women and Sports Conference in Macedonia and worked with other female athletes in the country to develop a video promoting women’s empowerment through sports. In conjunction with the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup and Equal Playing Field “Festival of Football,” she helped organize a workshop with other GSMP alumnae focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment, building networks, and brainstorming how the global GSMP network can be leveraged to promote and support alumnae Action Plans. In 2020, Silvija was appointed as an advisor for sport to the prime minister in Macedonia where she worked to make sport more accessible to everyone, particularly girls and children from socially disadvantaged communities.
