THE PROBLEM
Women and girls face severe inequalities worldwide, without opportunities or access to play sports and reap its many benefits. They also remain underrepresented in sport-based careers and leadership positions, meaning their voices are absent or sometimes even silenced.
OUR SOLUTION
For us, this reality is not okay. Our lives have been transformed by the power of sport and we believe every woman and girl deserves that same chance, no matter where she is born. By leveraging the power of education, mentorship, and media, we equip women with new skills, resources, and networks so that they can continue advocating for their own “Title IX” gender equality moments in history.

About
The Book
The Strong Women. Better World book celebrates how an historic piece of American legislation laid the foundation for generations of women across the globe to benefit from the beauty of sport.
Read the stories of nine champions of social change from around the world and their fight for gender parity through sport. Each chapter focuses on one strong woman’s journey as a female athlete and human rights advocate; strong women like Aline Silva, Brazil’s only Olympic medalist in wrestling who is promoting gender equality through her sport and Cynthia Coredo, an entrepreneur from Kenya who uses the sport of boxing to empower young girls in her community, and many more.
The book also profiles GSMP mentors and American female sports pioneers who are the living legacies of Title IX. Strong Women. Better World is beautifully illustrated with photos and original artwork created by GSMP alumnae, Ilina Arsova and Abeer Essawy.

Who
We Are
The Center for Sport, Peace, and Society is a social enterprise committed to creating a more peaceful, equitable, and inclusive world through the power of sport and education.
We offer global leaders the tools needed to make a positive difference in their communities—from grassroots levels to governance—and help spark social progress, locally and abroad, through leadership programs, international outreach, storytelling projects, and scholarly research, all in pursuit of global solidarity.
Since 2012, we’ve partnered with and implemented the U.S. Department of State & espnW’s Global Sports Mentoring Program (GSMP), our signature Empowering Women initiative. The GSMP is an award-winning sports diplomacy initiative centered upon a five-week immersive mentorship experience that aims to empower international participants to serve their local communities by increasing access to and opportunities for women and girls to participate in sports.
The unique power of mentorship is one of the GSMP’s most impactful draws. Host organizations and mentors from the corporate and non-profit worlds are carefully chosen and matched by the CSPS with international participants to work hand-in-hand in an effort to develop an Action Plan designed to redress pressing social issues and advance gender equality and equity in and through sports.
